View - CreativeDrive Suite

Problem description

Basic layout that contains a lot of features born from it.

Basic layout that contains a lot of features born from it.

View is another platform used in the photography and video process in CreativeDrive. I was impressed by the complexity of this tool because it offers a lot of features to facilitate the projects before, during and after the shooting process.

This software is used by different personas such as producers, photographers, client managers, digital techs, among many others. The diversity of usage makes it more complex because it has to shelter a lot of workflows.

The main goal with this software was to improve its usability, enhancing the human-computer interaction with basic design principles, and maintaining its functional core. Some improvements in the architecture of the tool were also needed in order to organize it in a more sustainable way.

The design solution

The first step in the design process is the research phase, where understanding the platform is critical. In order to achieve that, we had several research sessions where we found out who uses this platform, in what moment of the process those specific personas intervine, what are the workflows every user needs to accomplish, etc.

The result was a journey map that documents the hole process in three different moments: the first one is pre-production, a moment when a client requests a new project and everything is getting ready. The second one is production, when all the magic happens at the shooting moment and they generate the corresponding photographies. The third one is post production, when they have to adjust every image required to the client needs.

At the end of the research, we obtained a diagram that summarizes all the features this system should have, the personas who use it, and the workflows we need to develop. Below you can see how that diagram looks.

After determining the size of the platform and all the features involved, we were ready to start the layouts design, we knew the complexity of each section and how they are related to each other, which helps to decide the order of the wireframes production. When all the workflows are finished, is time to start the validation phase with user tests in order to find out if we are missing something important or if the design is accurate enough. Some examples of the interfaces designed in the UX phase of this project are shown below, click on the thumbnails to see an expanded detail of them.
